The Worlds Most Amazing Beautiful Concert Halls

Perfect Acoustics
The dream and the goal of he who builds a concert hall is to design just the right acoustical properites. Acoustics in fact, are something you cannot see or touch. Acoustics are the most important attribute to the instruments during performance.
The concert hall is actually a musical instrument. This may shock some people. Though it makes no sound of its own, it becomes an extension by reverberating sounds., absorbing frequencies as it does so. Therefore the acoustics of a hall are crucial to conducting sound.
The reason for concert halls is all about sound. Sound quickly loses intensity as it fans outward in all directions. By the time an orchestra's sound travels from stage to front row, its energy spreads to an area of 300 square yards or so, by the back row of a large hall it would stretch to 30,000 square yards if there were no walls to contain the sound.
One of the earliest pioneers in the field of acoustics was Harvard University’s Wallace Sabine. His research and studies of reverberation and attenuation continue to influence acousticians to this day.
Acousticians distinguish between three kinds of sound in a concert hall.
- Direct sound, which comes straight to you from the stage.
- Early sound, that comes from the first reflections to reach your ear, normally from the celing or side walls.
- Reverberation, which graduallybuilds and decays as sound waves ricochet off every surface.
The energy in direct sound and early sound together should exceed reverberated sound. The less reverberation a room offers, the more definition it has. However, too much definition produces a dry sound so a balance is sought. The delima for the acoustician is that a room is ideal for one kind of music but can be awful for another.
Acoustically speaking, the interior shape of an auditorium plays a key role , and designers have experimented with almost everything imaginable, including fan-shaped, reverse fan, shoebox, and circular rooms.
Sounds leap from a concert hall stand and sigzag around as if in a giant, three-dimensional pinball machine.
Music brings us to ecstacy...

Wow Audrey...some beautiful architecture on display here. You've also managed to avoid making a relatively technical subject unnecessarily dry (pun intended). While acoustical measurement has come a long way in the last 20 years, it's still up to a human being with ears and a brain to make it serve the music being produced for the audience.
It still amazes me that some of the oldest concert halls in the world managed to get it 'right' the first time. Of course these have been measured and studied in detail, and have become the benchmarks for newer or revamped concert halls.
It's all about the music, after all. Bravo.
The talents, imagination and creative genius of mankind is amazing. I loved seeing these. This will remain forever one of my favorite Hubs.
The concert halls around the world are so grand. I would love to go to just one , esp. the lucerne. I dearly love music, and to be able to go to a live concert would be wonderful. Thank you. Your Hubs are special.
Cheers
These Concert Halls are Truly Amazing Vocalcoach, what a Treat for the eyes to see...And Perfect Acoustics as well...I could just imagine what it would be like to sit and listen surrounded by the best. What a Talented and Wonderful Hub. Thank You!
Wow so completely amazing in every way!
Magnificent Audrey! I never even knew some of these places existed much less what they look like. I don't think one could capture this at an actual concert either because it would be filled with concert goers and the concert hall itself would be filled with so many people.
You have taken us all on quite a tour, concert halls like none other! What a wonderful hub, I have learned so much Audrey - Thank you my friend! Up, useful and beautiful!
Excellent. There is no one that I would rather get sound advice from.
The photgraphs are amazing. Nice blending of words and pictures.
Thank you, Audrey, for this lovely compilation of concert halls and the spectacular photos. They are all amazing.
Great comments and outstanding pictures. Flag up and awesome!
These concert halls are absolutely breath-taking! May search on-line to see inside of them all! The Lucime is beautiful, but a bit dizzy-ing to me (but may not be that way when actually there). And this hub you wrote comes at a time when they have demolished the Ford Auditorium in Michigan, one of their reasons being that the acoustics was very poor - great timing on your part. Although, I wish they had done work to improve the acoustics rather than tear it down. By the way, or should I say btw, you did excellent work explaining about how acoustics works - it's amazing how so much masterful planning and creativity goes into such architectural splendors. Thanks for sharing these beautiful works of art. v/r
Wow...wow...wow. I love to see all these concert halls in person. I love classic music and of course opera. Thanks for share with us. I also love stunning pictures here. Well done, my friend. Vote it up!

This piece is a definite"thumbs up". Thanks for the visual treat. Up and awesome.
Wow, I'd love to experience one of those!
I have never thought of a concert hall as a musical instrument before but now I will never forget it! So many beautiful buildings and wonderful pictures. It must be amazing to see them in reality. Voted up of course.
Tina
actually one of the really cool concert halls is the Esplanade in Singapore. From the outside it is meant to look like a durian - one of the fruits that Singaporeans like to eat. At night the Esplanade looks really spectacular.
Hi, this is amazing, what beautiful buildings, and the sound must be tremendous, its not a thing that you think about, the acoustics, but of course they are so important, great info! cheers nell
Wow VC,
The research and photos are awesome. And I thought I really like what we have here in Cleveland, Ohio. Hmmmmm, I need to travel more. Thanks for a great read!
Sharyn
wow, I am certainly going to add many of these to my list, each one seems to be so cool to even see... well done. Keep up teh great work
I came back for a second visit.
I have had an opportunity to go to a function at Walt Disney Concert Hall Los Angeles Ca., it's a beautiful building.
For some reason a Kazakhstan Concert Hall, seems so far out of the realm - I must be stereotyping.
"The concert hall is actually a musical instrument."
Amen! An awesome statement.
I loved this Hub. The concert halls are extraordinarily gorgeous. I especially like the first two on this page. Well done! Thank you for this pleasure.
Vocalcoach, Wonderful and invigorating! I can only imagine the magnificent acoustics! WOW! What splendid works of architecture... Thank you for sharing, Peace & Blessings!

What a beautiful picturesque journey you took us on here. Wow awesome isn't awesome enough to describe these magnificent architectural delights. They were designed with performances and performers in mind no doubt.
These are the places where only the best of the best perform and give us their artistic genius performances. I am so pleased to be the first to view these structures.
I can sit back in my comfy office on my couch and hear the talent that reverberates from the acoustical wonders from them. Brilliant hub, Bravo I applaud you, now please take a bow....
